Philanthrocapitalism
Summary
Ideology according to which the ultra-rich are best positioned to solve the world’s problems because they apply market methods (efficiency, return on investment, disruption) to social issues. This belief system allows for the conversion of economic capital into moral and political capital, creating a circuit of legitimization whereby wealth becomes proof of universal competence.
Detailed description
Philanthropocapitalism is the dominant ideology of contemporary economic elites. It is based on the idea that market mechanisms are superior to democratic mechanisms for solving social problems, and that billionaires – precisely because they have succeeded in the market – are best placed to 'save the world'. This belief system is central to the Epstein affair: philanthropy served as a screen of respectability, a mechanism for access to academic and political elites, and a fiscal shield. Wexner, Gates, Black, Brockman, the Maxwells – all key players in the Epstein network operated within this framework. Strategic philanthropy creates a structural dependence of universities and NGOs on donors, producing documented institutional silence (THEORY-0042, score 0.9).
Belief pillars

Litterature critique croissante (Giridharadas, McGoey).
