Phase 1 — Mutual Discovery (2011) Epstein meets Milner and immediately understands his strategic value. To Jes Staley: 'yuri milner — he didn't stop talking no kidding. I understand his entire structure' (EFTA00917404). Epstein describes him as 'largest shareholder of facebook' and introduces Milner into his network via David Stern, who connects Milner to Li Bo Tan (son-in-law of the Speaker of the Chinese Congress) and mentions Deripaska.
Phase 2 — Co-investments and Fund Project (2013-2014) Milner co-invests with Gates in Foundation Medicine (Forbes January 2013). Nikolic confirms that Milner visited Epstein’s Paris apartment and NY residence 'two or three times' (EFTA00873978).
