Summary

The two largest international banks managing Epstein’s accounts – JPMorgan Chase (1998-2013) and Deutsche Bank (2013-2019) – systematically ignored or circumvented anti-money laundering alerts and warning signs related to Epstein's transactions. The theory asserts that this negligence was not accidental but systemic, facilitated by senior executives who maintained the banking relationship despite internal alerts, the 2008 conviction, and evidence of suspicious transactions. Substantial financial settlements (365M$ JPMorgan, 150M$ fine + 75M$ settlement Deutsche Bank) confirm institutional complicity without, however, proving deliberate participation in the trafficking itself.

Detailed description

This theory examines the central role of the banking system in enabling the Epstein network. It is broken down into three main axes:

  1. JPMORGAN CHASE (1998-2013): Epstein was a client of JPMorgan for 15 years, including 5 years after his 2008 conviction in Florida. Banker Jes Staley maintained an intense personal relationship with Epstein (more than 1000 emails between 2008 and 2012, visits to his home in the Virgin Islands). Compliance teams repeatedly flagged suspicious transactions, but senior executives – including Staley, Mary Erdoes (director of private banking), Stephen Cutler (general counsel) and John Duffy – overruled these alerts. An internal document from 2011 states that 'Jes Staley conferred with Stephen Cutler and the decision was made to keep Mr. Epstein as a PB [private bank] client.' The suspicious transactions included significant cash withdrawals, payments to identified co-conspirators, and judicial settlements totaling more than $7M.

  2. DEUTSCHE BANK (2013-2019): When JPMorgan finally ended the relationship in 2013, Deutsche Bank immediately stepped in. A memorandum prepared prior to the transfer already contained information on the 2008 plea deal and 17 civil settlements. Despite being classified as 'high risk,' actual monitoring was minimal. The bank processed hundreds of transactions totaling millions of dollars that should have triggered an in-depth investigation, including payments to individuals publicly identified as co-conspirators of Epstein.

  3. LEON BLACK / APOLLO (2012-2017): Billionaire Leon Black, founder of Apollo Global Management, paid between $158M and $170M to Epstein for 'tax and estate planning services.' The Senate Finance Committee discovered that these funds potentially served to finance Epstein’s trafficking operations. The amounts are unprecedented for simple tax advice and far exceed Fortune 500 CEOs’ remuneration.

  4. THE WEXNER / POWER OF ATTORNEY: In 1991, Les Wexner granted Epstein an unlimited power of attorney over his personal fortune (estimated at $1.8-2.1 billion). Epstein oversaw the sale of more than $1.3 billion in stock between 1991 and 2006. Wexner claims that Epstein embezzled funds, repaying $100M in 2007 – an amount considered a fraction of the total embezzled.
