The Little St. James Temple -- Occult Symbolism and Interpretations

DESCRIPTION OF THE BUILDING

The building is located at the southwest tip of Little St. James, a 31-hectare private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, purchased by Jeffrey Epstein in 1998. It is an octagonal structure of approximately 325 m2 (3,500 square feet), surrounded by a terrace with geometrically patterned motifs painted in red on white, evoking a labyrinth or mosaics.

Documented architectural features:

• Facade with horizontal stripes alternating blue and white
• Gilded dome (visible in satellite images between July 2013 and March 2014; damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Maria in 2017)
• Arched doors
• Gilded statues (some descriptions mention parrots or birds, not specifically owls)
• Terrace with labyrinthine motifs

According to building permits filed with the USVI authorities in 2010, the building was designed as a ‘musical pavilion’ intended to house a grand piano. Journalists who saw the interior after Epstein’s arrest in 2019 (particularly via the O’Keefe Media Group video) describe a furnished interior with furniture consistent with a music or reading room.

However, the actual construction substantially deviated from the submitted plans, which has fueled speculation.

CONSPIRATIONIST INTERPRETATIONS

1. MOLOCH THEORY: Conspirators allege that the gilded statues on the roof represent owls, a symbol of Moloch, a Canaanite deity associated with child sacrifices. This link is made by analogy with the owl statue at Bohemian Grove (see THEORY-0102). FACTUAL PROBLEMS: (a) Moloch is historically represented as a bull, not an owl; (b) the owl-Moloch association is a modern misattribution propagated by theories about Bohemian Grove; (c) the statues on Epstein’s building more closely resemble tropical birds (parrots/macaws) than owls.

2. TEMPLE OF SOLOMON THEORY: Other interpretations see the blue and white stripes as a reference to the Temple of Solomon, linked to Epstein’s Judaism and theories about messianic Zionism. FACTUAL PROBLEM: the blue and white stripes more closely evoke ablaq, an Islamic architectural motif (alternating bands of different colors) used in Mamluk and Ottoman architecture (particularly the hammam of Aleppo, 14th century). No reference to the Temple of Solomon in the architect's plans.

3. SACRIFICIAL LABYRINTH THEORY: The labyrinthine motifs of the terrace are interpreted as references to ancient sacrificial rituals (the Labyrinth of Crete, the Minotaur). PROBLEM: labyrinthine motifs are a common decorative element in luxury architecture and gardens from antiquity to the present day.

4. MASONIC SUN DIAL THEORY: A full-size sundial was located on the island, surrounded by 13 colored benches. The number 13 and the sundial are interpreted as Masonic symbols. PROBLEM: 13 is a common number, and sundials are classic decorative elements in island luxury properties.

5. UNDERGROUND TUNNEL THEORY: Satellite and aerial images appear to show a door or entrance leading beneath the building. Conspirators allege the existence of underground tunnels for clandestine activities. PARTIALLY DOCUMENTED FACT: USVI construction plans mention a basement, but no ‘network of tunnels’ has been confirmed by federal investigators.

ART IN THE EPSTEIN MANSION (SUPPLEMENTARY)

In the mansion at 9 East 71st Street in Manhattan, investigators documented:

• A portrait of Bill Clinton in a blue robe and red heels (work by Petrina Ryan-Kleid, ‘Parsing Bill’, purchased at an exhibition at the New York Academy of Art)
• A sculpture of a woman in a wedding dress hanging from a rope (near the staircase)
• A photo-realistic mural depicting a prison scene with Epstein at center
• An ‘expressionist’ portrait of a deformed head with orange skin
• Various erotic and nude photographs
• Volumes of the Talmud on a bookshelf

The collection, valued at only $338,804 by the estate, did not contain works with explicit occult symbolism. ‘Ritual’ interpretations of these works are examples of overinterpretation.

IDENTIFIED COGNITIVE BIASES

• SYMBOLIC PUREIDOLIA: Tendency to see significant symbols in ambiguous decorative elements. This is the central bias of this theory.
• APophenia: Perception of meaningful connections between unrelated elements (Islamic ablaq + gilded dome + number 13 = occultism).
• CONFIRMATION BIAS: Selection of visual elements that confirm the occult hypothesis, ignoring simpler explanations.
• NARRATIVE BIAS: Integration of the building into a pre-existing narrative (satanic elite, NWO, Moloch) without independent evidence.
• BOHEMIAN GROVE AMALGAMATION: Projection of theories about the owl statue at Bohemian Grove onto the statues on Epstein’s island.
