Techno-Utopian Libertarianism
Summary
Ideology merging radical libertarianism (minimal or zero state) with the belief that technology can replace democratic institutions. Variants: seasteading (floating cities outside state sovereignty), crypto-anarchism (Bitcoin as a monetary system outside the state), exit ideology (tech elites have the right to 'exit' society). Strongly present within the Epstein Network via Peter Thiel, the MIT Media Lab, and the Edge Foundation sphere.
Detailed description
Techno-Utopian libertarianism is the dominant ideology of Silicon Valley. It fuses American libertarian philosophy (Ayn Rand, Murray Rothbard, Friedrich Hayek) with the belief that technology is inherently liberating and that tech entrepreneurs are the agents of this liberation. Peter Thiel is its most influential theorist ('Competition is for losers', monopoly is a virtue, democracy is incompatible with freedom). Within the Epstein circle: Thiel is a peripheral actor, but the ideology is shared by many actors within the MIT-Harvard-Edge network. ‘The California Ideology’ (Barbrook & Cameron, 1995) has shown how this fusion of counterculture and free markets produces an ideology where individual liberation passes through the technological market rather than collective action. Thiel and Patri Friedman’s seasteading (floating cities) is the extreme expression of this vision: creating jurisdictions free from state regulation.
Belief pillars
Origins

Radicalisation et contestation : Dark Enlightenment (Curtis Yarvin/Moldbug), Effective Accelerationism (e/acc). Thiel soutient Trump (2016).

Actors
Cofondateur de PayPal, premier investisseur de Facebook. Declaration : 'I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible' (2009).
Sa culture ('make something people want', 'move fast') codifie l'ideologie libertarienne tech pour chaque nouvelle generation d'entrepreneurs.

Instrumentalization
Analyse sectorielle, Morozov 'To Save Everything Click Here', Zuboff 'Surveillance Capitalism'
